The Surgery department provides the following treatments and therapies.

Soft Tissue:
• Chest and Abdominal surgery
• Patent ductus arteriosus (PDA)
• Portosystemic shunt
• Reconstructive surgery

Orthopedic:
• Fracture repair & Ilizarov Ring Fixation
• Hip Replacement & Triple Pelvic Osteotomy (TPO)
• Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy (TPLO)
• Arthroscopy

Neurosurgery:
• Myelograms
• Spinal Surgery

DOUGLAS BRUNS, DVM, DACVS
Bruns_DouglasDr. Bruns received his D.V.M. from the Ohio State University in 1992. He completed an internship at the University of Georgia and a surgical residency at The Ohio State University. In 1996, he was a staff surgeon at a small animal referral practice in Pittsburgh, PA. In 1997, Dr. Bruns became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgery. In 2001 he joined the surgical service at Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care Center.

MATT G. OAKES, DVM, DACVS
Oakes_MattDr. Matt Oakes received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the University of Florida in 1989. He completed an internship and surgical residency at Louisiana State University in 1993. He then owned and operated a mobile referral surgery practice in Denver, Colorado. In 1994, Dr. Oakes became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons and joined the surgical service at Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care Center. Dr. Oakes has published numerous articles in veterinary journals and textbooks, and has lectured regularly at local and national veterinary meetings. Dr. Oakes performs a wide variety of orthopedic, soft tissue, and neurosurgical procedures.

 

 

Megan Sawyer, DVM, Practice Limited to Surgery Dr Sawyer

Dr. Megan Sawyer graduated from Veterinary Medical School at Michigan State University in 2009. She has since completed an emergency, medical, and surgical internship at VCA Norwalk/Shoreline/Darien Veterinary Referral and Emergency Center in Norwalk, Connecticut, a surgical internship at Las Vegas Veterinary Specialty Center in Las Vegas, Nevada, and a surgical residency at MedVet Medical & Cancer Centers for Pets in Columbus, Ohio. She joined the surgical team at Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care Center in August of 2014.   Dr. Sawyer has been trained in a wide variety of both routine and complex orthopedic, neurologic, and soft tissue surgical procedures.
