How much does it cost to see a specialist?
Determining the total cost of services provided will be tailored to each patient based on disease condition and therapies & procedures required. A detailed estimate will be given at the time of consultation.

Is an appointment needed to see a specialist?
Yes. The Dentistry, Dermatology, Internal Medicine, Ophthalmology, Physical Rehabilitation & Fitness and Surgery departments generally see appointments Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm. Appointments can be made by calling 727.535.3500.

Is an appointment needed for emergency room?
No. All emergencies are seen on a first-come first-served basis, based on the severity of the emergency. Emergencies are seen 24-hours a day, seven days a week, and open all holidays. The emergency room can be reached at 727.531.5752.

How long is the wait time in the emergency room?
Wait times vary based on the number of being patients seen that day. All emergencies are will be triaged by the nursing staff, and an approximate wait time will be determined.

If no specialist appointments are available, can the patient be admitted to hospital through the Emergency/ Critical Care department?
Yes. The patient may be admitted through the hospital emergency room, if it has been determined that the patient’s problem requires immediate hospitalization and treatment. Upon arrival the client will be asked to fill out admission forms and to provide any medical records and x-rays that accompany the patient. An emergency nurse and doctor will examine the patient as soon as possible after arrival. After assessing the patient’s condition, the emergency room doctor will consult with the specialist, make the initial diagnostic and treatment plan, and provide a financial estimate the client for emergency room care only. The patient will be transferred to a specific specialty department typically within 24 hours.

Does the client need to be present when the patient is transferred from the Emergency/Critical Care department to a specialty department?
We request that the client either be available to return to the hospital to discuss further medical recommendations, or be available by phone and fax to sign any additional consent forms and provide the required deposit.


Will the client be required to place deposit for service provided?
Yes. A deposit (1/2 of estimate) is due when the patient is admitted to the hospital. An additional deposit may be required if the patient is transferred to an additional specialty department. Complete payment for all services will be required at the time of patient discharge.

What forms of payment are accepted?
Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care Center accepts cash, personal check, AmericanExpress, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and CareCredit.

Can the client arrange to make payments?
No. Full payment is due when services are rendered. Cash, personal check, AmericanExpress, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and CareCredit are accepted.

Should the client bring any personal belonging for their pet?
No. We ask that the pet’s personal belongings including toys, towels, blankets, bedding, dishes, carriers, collars, and leashes not be left at the hospital as they may become soiled or lost. The hospital will provide all necessary items for patient comfort and proper care.

What are the hospital/ICU visiting hours?
Hours vary. Visiting hours are set by each department, and hours may be limited based on the condition of the patient and other patients in the hospital/ICU. Please contact the department nursing staff for specific hours.

Does Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists & Emergency Care Center provide wellness care?
No. It is our policy to provide veterinary service for the specified problem(s) for which the patient was originally referred. We request that the client return to their family veterinarian for all future medical needs.
